About Power Ten
Our vision: to create an uncompromising competitive program reflecting the rich diversity of our community. We know inherently that working and playing together is the way to make change.
In August 2019, a group of rowers including legendary Minnesota Coach Miriam Baer met to discuss the future of rowing in Minnesota. Miriam, a medalist in the first US National Championship Regatta for Women in 1975, was a contentious, competitive oarswoman who had committed her life to the improvement of the sport in the upper midwest. This new club would both pursue excellence in rowing and represent the rich diversity of the Twin Cities.
PowerTen created its articles and crafted its mission statement in October, 2019. Miriam's sad passing on Novermber 4 leaves a fully volunteer board, and staff that is committed to building a club that will represent the best of Coach Miriam's spirit. We mean to create a lasting legacy for Miriam that will positively change and shape the future of rowing across the upper midwest.
Power Ten supports a committed Junior Team in training for the US Rowing Youth National Championship in 2021. Our first outreach program, Lake Phalen Community Rowing, launched in Summer 2020. LPCR's inaugural Summer Season, featured more than eighteen events, including a regular Saturday schedule of free Intro-to-Rowing sessions at Lake Phalen. Adult Learn-to-Rows will continue into the Fall Season as we continue to organize the Adult Rowing Program.
We support efforts in our community to build the infrastructure for welcoming, inclusive rowing clubs and a positive, competitive environment for all rowers.
